EPM Podcast #5 – Alexander Robotnick ‘Christmas EPM mix’
(Hot Elephant Music)

EPM are proud to announce the one and only Italian electronic maverick, Alexander Robotnick, who steps up to the plate for the fifth instalment of the EPM Podcast series. Following on from the Detroit Grand Pubahs’ Mysterious Mr. O, Detroit’s DJ Nasty, Motech man DJ 3000 and Mixtape’s Gus Brown’s podcasts we keep the dance flowing with a special festive mix to carry from Christmas until the new year. Once again Mr. Robotnick takes EPM’s digital catalogue straight to the heart of the floor as we see the likes of Savas Pascalidis, Tesla Boy, Kiko & Gino, Kid Massive, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Prok & Fitch, Marko Hopper and Max Durante get mashed up in the mix.

Alexander Robotnick (Alexander the worker in Russian) is the nickname that Maurizio Dami adopted in the early 80s when he started producing electronic music. In 1983 “Problèmes d’Amour”, a track he composed for Materiali Sonori/Fuzz Dance, an Italian Independent label, was an international hit and with time became a true “cult” of electronic dance music and a defining moment for Italian electronic music.

In the late 80s and 90s Maurizio became involved with different music genres and gave up the nickname that had made him popular, producing literally hundreds of tracks over the period (see here for the discography http://www.robotnick.it/cd_vinyl.htm).

In 2002 Maurizio Dami, once again as Alexander Robotnick, became a DJ as well as continuing to produce music, taking his new inspiration from the contemporary electronic producers that he had initially inspired. Since 2003 Robotnick has been DJing and performing live in numerous clubs around the world playing both his old school tracks as well as the best of current electro-disco and electro-house.

In HEM, Robotnick’s label, released “Oh no…Robotnick! and since then he has been producing electronic music for several labels. In April 2009 This is Music LTD released "Obsession For The Disco Freaks", a 12" including remixes by David Carretta, Heavy Foot and Rory Philips. Last February Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky put together their personal analog synths to organise and perform an Analog Session. The idea was to recreate the purely analog sound of the 70s and early 80s which the two artists consider to be the true "electronic sound". The DVD+CD will be released by This Is Music LTD in January 2010 and more recently a number of remixes by Robotnick such as "Stuck on Repeat" by Little Boots and "Dance Machine" by David Carretta have continued to confirm his legendary status.

So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, Alexander Robotnick in the mix.
