JD73 - The Jazz Doctor is in the house! Dan Goldman aka JD73 is a multi-talented producer/keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist hailing from Leeds UK. Dan's main project and producer alias JD73 encompasses a myriad of influences from boogie to funk through soul and disco to more twisted and broken/electronic/popular styles incorporating a bit of everything else along the way.
JD73 stands for Jazz Doctor 73, a nickname earned whilst on tour as keyboardist for Morcheeba due to his degree in Jazz. The ‘73’ part comes from his favourite 73-keyed vintage keyboard, the Rhodes Piano, which features heavily in all JD73 productions, along with his signature Moogs, Clavinet, String Machines and analogue synths, all kept under lock and key in his studio ‘The Analogue Cupboard!’
During the mid 90s Dan played keyboard and bass sessions for Morcheeba on four albums, co- wrote tunes on Morcheeba’s 'Dive Deep album', played sessions and co-wrote with Nightmares On Wax on the ‘Thought So’ album, whilst also remixing and sessioning for The New Mastersounds and for many more acts too, including playing live with the Jamiroquai band musicians for a series of gigs in Cambridge in 2007. Dan also became a Moog Music Inc. Artist too and was taken on by Future Music magazine as a freelance reviewer and esteemed panel expert, after filming a video masterclass for them following the making of ‘Distorted Dreams’ the opening track from ‘Zeros and Ones’ JD73’s debut album (Ropeadope, 2008).
Soon after the release of ‘Zeros and Ones’ and with some great live shows under his belt all over the UK (including support slots for Gilles Peterson and Jose James, and gigs at London Jazz Festival, The Barbican Blaze Festival and Supporting DJ Food at Cargo to name just a few) Dan set to work on the next JD73 album ‘Pure Gold’ this time taking inspiration from the likes of Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, and late 70s / early 80s disco and funk and for the first time, penning not only all the music but the majority of the lyrics too, whilst also (like the first album) engineering mixing, producing, arranging and programming all the music himself.
‘Pure Gold’ the hotly anticipated 2nd JD73 album is now complete and ready to take the world by storm, featuring a broad mix of world class UK vocal talent including Nate James, Fraser, Lana, Miss Modest, John McCallum and Fuzzy Jones. From the sunny strutting vibe of ‘Be Mine’ feat. Lana, the seductive charm of Nate James’ soulful inflection on ‘Written In The Stars’ and soul-funk of ‘Pure Gold’ featuring Miss Modest this is one album that does exactly what it says on the tin.
“Herbie Hancock, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Sun Ra would all be proud. Funk infused, electro-jazz is alive. Zeros and Ones proves that!” Okayplayer.com

Nate James burst on to the scene a few yars ago with his debut ‘Set The Tone’ and has since performed alongside Simply Red, Katie Melua, Musiq Soulchild, Alexander O'Neil, Omar, Incognito & Beverley Knight. He is one of the UK’s best urban soul artists.
Rachel Modest aka Miss Modest is former Lead Vocalist from the Blue Foot Project. Rachel grew up singing in church and this Wakefield soulstress sounds like a mixture of Jocelyn Brown and Chaka Khan, with some of the most powerful lungs in the business! She is the front woman for the JD73 live band.
Ella May has featured on several Nightmares On Wax releases and has fronted the Nightmares On Wax Live Show for some time.
John McCallum also tours as vocalist and lead/rhythm guitarist in Corinne Bailey Rae's band. He is also a featured vocalist on the Haggis Horns' debut album ‘Hot Damn’ on tracks ‘Hot Damn’ and ‘Got To Lose Your Way’.
Fuzzy Jones is Leeds' answer to Joni Mitchell or Asha Puthli with a voice to sooth your soul and also sings with a band called the Secret Cinema based in Leeds, UK.
Fraser Jowle is Yorkshire's best kept secret and an as yet raw and undiscovered vocal talent talent! He sounds a bit like Michael Jackson crossed with Pat Kane from Hue and Cry!
Lana hails from London and has an incredibly soulful and velvety sunshine voice. She’s an amazing writer who penned the lyrics and melody to ‘Be Mine’. She has worked with many artists including The BlueFoot Project (singing alongside Miss Modest), with Tom Mansi and The Icebreakers and with jazz vocalist Fiona Renshaw to name a few.
